Phivolcs clarifies 14km danger zone evacuation advisory

Phivolcs clarifies that not all residents within the 14-kilometer danger zone around Taal Volcano need to evacuate.

Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum explained that only identified high-risk areas are truly dangerous due to potential hazards like base surges, volcanic tsunamis, or pyroclastic density currents.

Solidum cited Tagaytay City's ridge as an example of an area within the 14-kilometer radius that is elevated and thus not prone to base surges, negating the need for evacuation.

He specified that only those in the lower parts of Tagaytay and certain areas near the shoreline of Lipa City, Batangas, are advised to evacuate.

Phivolcs maintains Alert Level 4 over Taal Volcano, indicating the possibility of a hazardous explosive eruption.

The volcano first spewed ash on Sunday, prompting the ongoing warning.
