PH bags 4 medals in Paris Olympics, best performance yet

The Philippines has achieved its best performance in the Paris Olympics with two gold medals from Carlos Yulo and two bronze medals from boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, surpassing the Tokyo Games' medal haul.

Yulo secured the gold medals in the men's floor exercise and men's vault gymnastics events.

Villegas earned a bronze in the women's 50 kg division semifinals, while Petecio also took home a bronze after her campaign in the women's 57 kg semifinals.

With these four medals, the country was ranked as high as No. 19 in the Olympic medal tally and was tied for 23rd place before the final days of competition.

Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino expressed hope for the medal count to increase with athletes competing in golf and weightlifting.

Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines Chairman Ricky Vargas highlighted the achievement, noting nine medals in total across recent Olympics from a 22-strong team with meager funding.
