PhilHealth to cover full COVID-19 treatment costs until April 14

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) will shoulder the full cost of treatment for all COVID-19 cases until April 14, 2020.

This decision, announced by PhilHealth president and CEO Ricardo Morales, is in response to growing public concern over treatment costs.

Morales stated that the accommodation window is due to the novelty and wide range of severity of the disease in the Philippines, for which no established case rate or package exists.

After April 14, PhilHealth plans to continue providing financial coverage through a recomputed case rate.

PhilHealth is confident that by April 14, more information about the disease's behavior in the Philippines will be available to establish a final protocol and appropriate case rate.

As of the article's publication, the Philippines has recorded 2,633 COVID-19 cases, with 107 fatalities and 51 recoveries.
