PH to get 5.6 million vaccine doses by March

The Philippines is set to receive at least 5.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines within the first quarter of 2021, with deliveries expected to start in February.

These initial shipments include Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca vaccines.

Employees of the Philippine General Hospital, the Lung Center of the Philippines, and the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (Tala Hospital) will be the first to be inoculated.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III stated that all staff of these hospitals will be vaccinated, not just the health workers, to ensure institutional safety.

Health workers and personnel of the East Avenue Medical Center will also be included in the initial rollout.

Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. expressed confidence in the country's readiness for the vaccine rollout, which is expected to commence this month.

The initial distribution of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines will be prioritized in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao due to their ultra-low temperature storage requirements.
