PH to get 22-23M AstraZeneca doses this year

The Philippines is set to receive a total of 22 to 23 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines within the year.

An initial delivery of 487,200 AstraZeneca vaccine doses arrived in the country on Thursday night, March 4, via a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines commercial plane as part of the COVAX Facility.

WHO has dispelled recent assertions that AstraZeneca would be hardly effective against the South Africa variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. stated that the Philippines must use up all 487,200 doses of the first AstraZeneca batch to receive further shipments from the COVAX Facility.

Galvez also mentioned that the country is scheduled to receive 4.5 million more AstraZeneca doses by the end of May.

China has offered to donate an additional 400,000 doses of coronavirus vaccines to the Philippines, President Duterte announced.
