PH population hits 112.73 million, growth rate slows

The Philippines' total population has reached 112.73 million in 2024, an increase from the 109.04 million recorded in 2020.

The population growth rate between 2020 and 2024 has decelerated to 0.8%, significantly lower than the 1.63% rate observed from 2015 to 2020.

This slowdown in population growth appears to mirror a global trend of declining birth rates, potentially influenced by economic pressures that discourage families from having children.

Factors such as declining fertility and birth rates, increased mortality possibly exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and other outbreaks, and reduced migration also contribute to this trend.

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) experienced the fastest regional population growth at 3.43%.

Other regions that grew faster than the national average include Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Metro Manila.
