PH population reaches 112.73 million as growth rate slows

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has officially declared the results of the 2024 Philippine Population Census, conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), as official for all governmental purposes.

The total population of the Philippines as of July 1, 2024, was recorded at 112.73 million, an increase of 3.69 million from the 2020 figure.

The annual population growth rate has slowed to 0.80 percent between 2020 and 2024, a decrease from the 1.63 percent recorded between 2015 and 2020.

The PSA attributes this deceleration in population growth to lower fertility and birth rates, higher mortality during the Covid-19 pandemic, and reduced migration.

Calabarzon remains the most populous region with 16.93 million people, followed by the National Capital Region with 14 million and Central Luzon with 12.99 million.

The census covered all 18 administrative regions and included Filipinos abroad.
