PH logs 8,900 new COVID-19 cases, active cases highest since Aug 8

The Philippines logged 8,900 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, August 9, 2021, bringing the total active cases to 78,480, the highest since August 8.

Of the active cases, 94% are experiencing mild symptoms, while 2.1% are asymptomatic, 1% critical, and 1.7% severe.

The death toll rose to 29,128 with six new fatalities, and the total recovery count increased to 1,560,106 after 7,937 more patients recovered.

Healthcare system utilization in Metro Manila shows 67% of ICU beds are in use, while 50% of mechanical ventilators are utilized; for the whole Philippines, 65% of ICU beds and 47% of mechanical ventilators are in use.

The Department of Health (DOH) also reported the deletion of 102 duplicate cases and the reclassification of four recoveries as deaths after final validation.

The National Capital Region was placed on a two-week strict lockdown to control the spread of the Delta variant, which has reached 450 cases.
