PH logs 12,674 new COVID-19 cases, active cases highest this year

The Philippines recorded 12,674 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, bringing the total case count to 853,209.

The total active cases nationwide have reached 190,245, the highest this year, with 97.2% being mild, 1.7% asymptomatic, 0.5% severe, and 0.4% critical.

The country's death toll increased by 225 to 14,744, while recoveries rose by 593 to 648,220.

After final validation, 49 cases previously classified as recoveries were reclassified as deaths.

In the National Capital Region, 86% of ICU beds are in use, and 59% of mechanical ventilators are occupied.

OCTA Research Group noted a decrease in the reproduction number in the NCR Bubble to 1.23 from 1.88, indicating the effectiveness of the enhanced community quarantine.
