PH, Japan eye ACSA, finalize security info pact

The Philippines and Japan have initiated negotiations for an Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) and have also finalized a Security of Information Agreement.

These accords aim to enhance collaboration and facilitate more frequent visits between the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The ACSA will govern the provision of supplies and services between their defense forces, enabling greater logistical and operational interoperability.

According to Japan's Cabinet Secretary for Public Affairs, Kobayashi-Terada Maki, the ACSA will support increased port calls and comprehensive joint exercises.

The Security of Information Agreement will formalize the exchange of vital defense and security information between the two nations.

Prime Minister Ishiba stated that the two countries affirmed the importance of their growing security partnership, including trilateral cooperation with the US.

The deepening strategic ties between Tokyo and Manila occur amidst rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific region.
