PH eyes Feb vaccine rollout with Pfizer, Sinovac among options

The Philippines is targeting its COVID-19 vaccine rollout to commence in February 2021, with initial doses potentially arriving around February 20.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. mentioned that the rollout could include vaccines from Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, or Sinovac, with initial doses likely from the COVAX facility.

The Philippines is expected to receive fully subsidized doses from the COVAX facility for 20% of its population, approximately 20 million Filipinos.

Galvez also stated that about 40 million doses are expected from COVAX for 20 million to 30 million people.

The main bulk of vaccines is anticipated to be distributed in the third and fourth quarters from Novavax and the Serum Institute of India.

The government has already signed a term sheet with Serum Institute for 30 million doses of the Covovax vaccine.
