PH eyes 50-70M COVID-19 vaccinations in 2021

The Philippines aims to vaccinate between 50 to 70 million of its citizens against COVID-19 in 2021, with the government actively negotiating for up to 148 million vaccine doses.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. stated that the country is in advanced talks with several vaccine manufacturers including Novovax, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Sinovac, and Gamaleya, hoping to finalize deals within January.

Galvez also mentioned that the Philippines is expected to receive fully subsidized vaccine doses for 20% of its population, or 22 million Filipinos, through the COVAX Facility.

The COVAX Facility is a global program designed to ensure countries have access to approved and safe COVID-19 vaccines.
