PH COVID-19 cases exceed 11,000 with 292 new infections

The Philippines has reported a total of 11,086 COVID-19 cases as of Monday, May 11, with 292 new infections confirmed.

The country's death toll has reached 726 with seven additional fatalities, while recoveries have climbed to 1,999 following 75 new survivors.

Of the new cases, 162 were from Metro Manila and 74 from Region VII.

The Inter-agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases will decide whether to extend the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) or downgrade areas to general community quarantine (GCQ).

Metro Manila mayors have presented three scenarios to the national government's coronavirus task force regarding the ECQ status of the megacity beyond May 15.

Experts from the University of the Philippines advised the government to conduct widespread testing before relaxing quarantine measures, warning that the current data could be misleading.

Researchers from OCTA Research warned that lifting the ECQ too soon in Metro Manila may result in an escalation of cases and deaths by June 15.
