PH COVID-19 cases breach 1 million mark

The Philippines breached the one-million mark for COVID-19 cases on April 26, with the Department of Health reporting 8,929 new infections.

As of April 28, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 1,020,495.

The DOH also recorded 11,333 new recoveries and 70 new deaths on April 26, bringing the cumulative totals to 914,952 recoveries and 16,853 deaths.

With the latest data, the total number of recoveries rose to 935,695 while the death toll climbed to 17,031.

There were 74,623 active cases as of April 26, with the majority being mild.

Of the 67,769 active cases reported on April 28, 94.9 percent were mild, 1.6 percent were asymptomatic, 1.1 percent were critical, 1.4 percent were severe and 0.95 percent were moderate.

The DOH clarified that 23 duplicates were removed from the total case count on April 26, and 27 recoveries were reclassified as deaths.

Moreover, 18 duplicates were removed from the total case count as 12 of these were recoveries, and 59 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Two laboratories were non-operational and nine were unable to submit their data on April 24, 2021.

One lab was not operational on April 26, 2021 while 5 labs were not able to submit their data to the CDRS.
