PH, China agree on Ayungin resupply provisional deal

The Philippines and China have reached a provisional arrangement for resupply and rotation missions to the BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal.

This understanding was finalized during a bilateral consultation mechanism meeting in Manila on July 2.

Both sides recognize the need to de-escalate the situation in the South China Sea and manage differences through dialogue and consultation.

The agreement will not prejudice either country's positions in the South China Sea.

This comes after Chinese Coast Guard forces attacked Filipino troops during a resupply mission in mid-June, actions the military chief described as "pirate-like."

During the June 17 incident, Chinese Coast Guard members boarded Philippine rubber boats with bladed weapons, looted rifles, and rammed a boat, injuring a Filipino Navy officer.
