PDP-Laban to hold national assembly in July to elect officers

PDP-Laban will convene a national assembly in July to elect party officers.

The terms of current officials, including acting president Senator Manny Pacquiao, have expired, leading to the planned election.

PDP-Laban secretary-general Melvin Matibag clarified that the national assembly is the appropriate venue for leadership elections.

Raul Lambino, PDP-Laban Vice President for External Affairs, stated that Pacquiao is only an acting president and was not duly elected by the national assembly.

However, PDP-Laban executive director Ron Munsayac asserted that any bid to oust Pacquiao as national president would not prosper due to majority partymates' confidence in his leadership.

Pacquiao is not inclined to create a new political party and will remain as the party president.

The national council assembly led by PDP-Laban vice chair Alfonso Cusi was not an insult to Pacquiao.

House officials indicated that various political groups, including the Nationalist People's Coalition, would welcome Senator Pacquiao if he decides to leave PDP-Laban.

Pacquiao, eyeing the 2022 presidency, assailed party vice chairman Alfonso Cusi for organizing a meeting without informing him, the party president.
