The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed a replacement vessel to Escoda Shoal after the BRP Teresa Magbanua was recalled.
The new vessel is already conducting its mission of maritime patrol and monitoring illegal activities in the area.
National Maritime Council (NMC) spokesperson Undersecretary Alexander Lopez confirmed the new ship has not encountered harassment so far.
The deployed asset covers Escoda Shoal and other areas in the West Philippine Sea.
Lopez stated that part of the ship's mission is to document Chinese vessels and illegal activities to provide information to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for possible diplomatic action.
The BRP Teresa Magbanua was recalled after five months due to concerns about its seaworthiness, crew supplies, prevailing bad weather, and after a Chinese blockade made resupply difficult.
Escoda Shoal, also known as Sabina Shoal, is located 75 nautical miles off Palawan and falls within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.
