PCG vessel replaces BRP Teresa Magbanua at Escoda Shoal

The National Security Council (NSC) confirmed that a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel has replaced the BRP Teresa Magbanua in monitoring Escoda Shoal (Sabina Shoal).

The BRP Teresa Magbanua was withdrawn due to adverse weather, low supplies, and crew medical needs after five months of anchoring in the area.

The PCG vessel's role is to ensure no illegal activities, particularly reclamation, occur in Escoda Shoal.

Escoda Shoal is a reef located approximately 70 nautical miles off Palawan and lies within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.

The NSC assures the public that monitoring efforts will continue using various assets to detect any illegal activities by China.
