PCC, NTC ink deal to ensure fair competition in data transmission

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to bolster fair competition and regulatory coordination in the data transmission industry, in line with the Konektadong Pinoy Act (KPA).

This pact involves joint market monitoring, policy development, enforcement actions, and capacity-building initiatives.

The agencies will develop protocols for information exchange, coordinate on merger reviews and investigations, and form joint task forces.

PCC chair Michael Aguinaldo stated that this collaboration will safeguard the sector from monopolistic practices detrimental to consumers.

NTC Commissioner Ella Blanca Lopez added that the agreement enables strong interagency collaboration and responsible data sharing to better serve Filipino consumers.

Section 18 of the KPA mandates the development of interagency cooperation mechanisms, including information-sharing tools, to ensure effective enforcement and uphold fair competition.
