Palace asks agencies to donate savings instead of holding lavish parties

Malacañang has urged government agencies to avoid lavish Christmas parties and instead donate savings to storm-ravaged communities.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated this is in solidarity with Filipinos affected by recent typhoons.

He encouraged agencies to unilaterally adopt austerity in their celebrations and donate any savings.

Bersamin cited that six typhoons have hit the Philippines since October, affecting over 9.6 million people and causing 160 deaths.

The government also aims to ensure the Christmas spirit is felt in typhoon-affected areas through relief and assistance.
