PBBM, Macron tackle South China Sea tensions

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed tensions in the South China Sea, specifically concerning the West Philippine Sea, during a phone conversation.

President Marcos affirmed the Philippines' commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and open shipping lanes and airways in the region.

He thanked France for its support, including French patrols in the West Philippine Sea and adherence to international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

President Macron announced plans to send a group of French ministers to the Philippines later this year.

The leaders also discussed furthering economic cooperation, referencing the recent joint economic committee meeting.
