UNCLOS

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) serves as the legal framework for maritime activities, including the Philippines' claims in the West Philippine Sea and its efforts to protect its exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The Philippines consistently invokes UNCLOS in its interactions with foreign vessels and in its advocacy for international law to uphold maritime sovereignty and security. The country also supports multilateral efforts to strengthen UNCLOS through treaties like the High Seas Treaty and the 2016 arbitral ruling.
