Marcos Jr. launches 50% fare discount for seniors and PWDs

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. launched a 50% fare discount program for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) on the LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3.

This new discount rate bumps up the previously mandated 20% discount for these groups.

The program aims to alleviate the financial strain on commuters, with an estimated 13 million senior citizens and seven million PWDs expected to benefit.

To avail of the discount, seniors and PWDs can either purchase single journey tickets at station counters or apply for a concessionary beep card.

This initiative follows a similar 50% discount program for students introduced in June, for which students need to present their school IDs.

Transportation chief Vince Dizon stated that the increased discounts will not significantly impact the government's budget.
