PBBM assures Germany on WPS sovereign rights assertion

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. assured Filipinos in Germany that the Philippines will continue to assert its sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea.

Marcos highlighted Germany's support for the Philippines in maintaining a secure and peaceful South China Sea, emphasizing adherence to the rules-based international order and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

He stated that the Philippines will not allow other countries to claim its territory, referring to the clear Philippine claim over the West Philippine Sea.

The President is in Berlin for a working visit, where he expressed gratitude to Germany for advocating for a rules-based international order amidst rising tensions in the region.

A 2016 ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration determined that China lacks a legal basis for its historical claims to resources within the South China Sea, as defined by its "nine-dash line."
