PAOCC mulls gradual phaseout of POGOs

The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) is considering proposing a gradual phaseout of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) as an alternative to an outright ban.

This consideration comes in response to intensified calls for a ban due to illegal activities associated with the POGO industry.

PAOCC spokesperson Dr. Winston Casio suggested that a phased withdrawal could serve as a transitional mechanism towards the complete elimination of POGO operations.

Casio indicated that a gradual phaseout might be a more viable approach before pursuing a total ban.

Currently, only 42 POGOs are operating legally in the Philippines, with 41 located in Metro Manila and one in Kawit, Cavite.

The government has already canceled licenses for 298 POGO operations found to be illegally functioning, although some continue to operate clandestinely.
