Authorities have seized a total of P32.7 million worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes following the inspection of two undeclared containers at North Harbor, Manila.
The operations were a joint effort by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Customs (BOC), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Philippine Tobacco Institute.
The first seizure occurred on March 5, 2025, involving 80 boxes containing 16,000 rims of cigarettes valued at P15.8 million.
A subsequent operation on March 14, 2025, uncovered 83 boxes with 16,900 rims of cigarettes worth approximately P17 million in a second undeclared container.
Intelligence reports indicated that the smuggled cigarettes were transported from Zamboanga to Manila via a passenger-cargo vessel.
All involved agencies are preparing to file cases against the perpetrators.
The cigarettes were found mixed with parcels from an online shopping platform and arrived at Pier 14 on February 27.
