P1.2 billion in suspected smuggled cigarettes seized in Batangas

Suspected smuggled cigarettes valued at P1.2 billion were seized by the Highway Patrol Group (HPG)-Calabarzon in Balete, Batangas.

The contraband was found loaded in 14 trailer trucks.

The operation initially targeted a carnapped vehicle, which led authorities to a private yard where the cigarettes were discovered.

The cigarettes were packed in boxes with unfamiliar brand names.

Authorities are investigating the origin and destination of the shipment, and whether it was smuggled or improperly declared.

It is yet to be confirmed if any arrests were made during the operation.
