The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) have provided PHP10,000 cash assistance to 566 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the Covid-19 travel ban.
These OFWs, many from the Ilocos region, were unable to return to their work assignments in Hong Kong, Macao, and China due to the imposed travel bans.
The financial aid is an immediate response to President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to ease the burden of affected OFWs.
Stranded OFWs whose flights were scheduled from February 2 to 16 have already claimed their assistance.
Those with flights scheduled from February 17 onwards can submit their profiles to OWWA satellite offices to be notified about receiving the aid.
OWWA may also offer scholarship grants for dependents and livelihood assistance if the travel ban continues indefinitely.
