Opposition urges PBBM to certify anti-dynasty bill as urgent

Opposition lawmakers are urging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to certify the anti-political dynasty bill as urgent legislation.

Sen. Francis Pangilinan stated that while the bills are on the administration's priority list, this is not enough to fast-track their approval due to limited legislative days.

Pangilinan emphasized that certification as urgent would be a more effective step to expedite the passage of both the Anti-Political Dynasty bill and the Independent People's Commission (IPC) Act.

He noted that it has been nearly 40 years since the Constitution banned political dynasties, yet Congress has not passed the enabling law.

If Congress fails to pass the bill, Pangilinan urged the Supreme Court to "legislate" by ruling on pending petitions to declare political dynasties unconstitutional.
