More flood control cases may be filed at Sandiganbayan this week–Ombudsman
The Office of the Ombudsman plans to file additional criminal cases this week at the Sandiganbayan concerning the flood control scandal, according to Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano.
Previously, the Ombudsman filed malversation and graft cases against former congressman Zaldy Co, DPWH Region IV-B officials, and Sunwest Corp. directors for alleged anomalies in an Oriental Mindoro flood control project.
Graft and malversation charges were also filed against St. Timothy Construction owner Sarah Discaya and others for a supposed "ghost" project in Davao Occidental.
Clavano stated that the cases being prepared are strong and aim for genuine accountability.
He explained that cases involving direct evidence of payoffs are easier to prosecute than those requiring the identification of bagmen.
The Ombudsman's office prioritizes filing cases with solid evidence to ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
Separately, the preliminary investigation on former senator Bong Revilla is at its "advanced stage" at the DOJ.
