Ombudsman eyes live-streaming of preliminary probe hearings

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla is exploring the possibility of live-streaming preliminary investigation hearings for greater transparency, including those related to the flood control scandal.

Remulla stated that his office is examining the technical aspects of enabling live broadcasts of these hearings.

This initiative is part of the Ombudsman's commitment to enhancing transparency within its operations.

In line with this transparency drive, the Ombudsman's office will also make public the details of Senator Joel Villanueva's case, which was handled by previous Ombudsmen Conchita Carpio-Morales and Samuel Martirez.

Remulla highlighted that these decisions are considered public property and are presumed valid, aiming to address public speculation surrounding the case.

Previously, in 2016, former Ombudsman Carpio-Morales had ordered Villanueva's dismissal from public service due to administrative liability concerning the alleged misuse of P10 million in Priority Development Assistance Fund allocations during his time as a former representative.
