OCTA: NCR COVID-19 cases may drop to 1,000 by end of May if MECQ extended

The National Capital Region (NCR) could see daily COVID-19 cases fall to approximately 1,000 by the end of May if the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) is extended, according to OCTA Research.

Dr. Guido David of OCTA Research stated that the current reproduction number in the NCR is 0.65, with an average of under 2,000 daily cases.

He explained that extending the MECQ would facilitate this projected decrease in infections.

Alternatively, a downward trend in daily cases can also be maintained if quarantine restrictions are gradually and carefully eased.

David emphasized that a gradual and calibrated exit strategy would help prevent a reversal of the current downward trend in cases.
