NLEX traffic eases after early congestion

Motorists heading to the provinces faced significant traffic congestion on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) earlier than usual this Holy Week, with heavy traffic volumes observed as early as Tuesday.

NLEX implemented an early counterflow scheme starting at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, allowing northbound travelers to use the southbound lane from Balintawak to Marilao, with a similar setup from San Fernando to Dau in Pampanga.

Traffic along NLEX began to ease on Wednesday evening, normalizing by around 5 p.m., attributed by NLEX management to half-day work schedules and motorists traveling earlier.

As of 2 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, traffic at the Balintawak toll plaza, Balintawak to Dau Northbound, and Tarlac Toll Plaza remained light, though a 400-meter buildup was noted at the Mindanao Exit.

A grass fire occurred on the southbound lane of NLEX approaching the Sta. Rita Exit, causing zero visibility and prompting patrol assistance.
