New tropical depression to enter PAR, may become typhoon

A new tropical depression, expected to be named "Rolly," is set to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the day or early Thursday.

The outer circulation of Typhoon Quinta is still causing rains over Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Western Visayas, while Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to have fair weather with isolated thunderstorms.

Quinta, the country's 17th storm this year, caused deaths and displaced approximately 150,000 residents.

The incoming tropical depression, currently located east of Central Luzon, has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gusts of up to 70 kph.

PAGASA forecasts the tropical depression to strengthen into a tropical storm within 24 hours and may reach typhoon category prior to landfall.

It is projected to move towards the Bicol region and Eastern Visayas, although its path may still change.
