Bigasan ng Bayan offers P20/kg rice to Talisay City residents

Qualified residents of Talisay City were able to purchase rice at PHP20 per kilogram through the provincial government's "Bigasan ng Bayan" program, in partnership with the Federation of Irrigators' Association of Central Negros - Bago River Irrigation System (FIACN-BRIS).

A total of 505 beneficiaries in Talisay City each bought 5 kilograms of quality rice for PHP100, with the rice sourced from farmer-members in Valladolid town.

FIACN-BRIS president Pedro Limpangog expressed gratitude for the opportunity to offer affordable rice in Talisay City, following a similar initiative in Pulupandan last month.

He mentioned that supply might be affected by recent heavy rains impacting palay crops planted by FIACN-BRIS farmer-members in Bago City and Valladolid town.

The program, previously piloted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Visayas, was halted due to electioneering regulations but has now resumed.

Eligible buyers included senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, and beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, who purchased rice at the "Bigasan ng Bayan" located in the Talisay City public plaza.
