200 Davao Occidental workers get P20/kg. rice
Davao Occidental is the latest province to launch the government's "Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na" program, offering rice at PHP20 per kilogram to minimum wage earners.
Approximately 200 workers from the Malita Rural Workers Agrarian Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MARWABEMPCO) in Malita town were the first recipients in the province.
Each beneficiary received 10 kilograms of well-milled National Food Authority rice at the subsidized rate.
The program aims to cushion the impact of inflation and rising commodity prices on the working class.
DOLE-11 Provincial Head Paul Cruz stated that the initiative is a flagship program of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to support workers' economic resilience.
This expansion of the program brings the total number of identified beneficiaries across Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostela, and Davao Occidental to over 1,293.
