Siquijor power restored ahead of deadline

Stable electricity has been fully restored in Siquijor Province, a day ahead of the June 15 deadline set by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

President Marcos personally intervened on June 11 and directed National Electrification Administration (NEA) Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda to act without delay.

NEA, working with Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative (Prosielco), facilitated immediate repairs on the Siquijor Island Power Corp. (SIPCOR) generation sets.

A generator from the Palawan Electric Cooperative was also shipped and installed on the island, while SIPCOR deployed rental generator sets to meet demand.

These efforts increased Siquijor's total dependable power capacity to 11 megawatts (MW), exceeding the province's peak demand of 9 MW and providing a 1.65 MW reserve.

The Department of Energy (DOE) officer-in-charge Sharon Garin attributed the improvement to the combined efforts of the DOE, NEA, and the provincial government.

NEA assured continued monitoring to maintain reliable electricity for residents, businesses, and schools.

President Marcos also guaranteed a long-term solution to the power shortage within six months.
