NCRPO, ACG chiefs relieved over extortion raps

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Sidney Hernia and Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) chief Police Major General Ronnie Cariaga have been relieved from their posts for 10 days.

This relief is due to an extortion complaint filed by four Chinese citizens arrested during an October 30 raid on an alleged scam hub in Manila.

The foreign nationals claimed police attempted to extort P1 million from each of them in exchange for legal representation and their release.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) clarified that these administrative reliefs are not a form of punishment but are standard procedure to allow for an impartial investigation.

Police Brigadier General Reynaldo Tamondong will serve as the officer-in-charge of the NCRPO, while Police Colonel Vina Guzman will head the ACG.
