NCR quarantine restrictions to remain unchanged due to COVID-19 data

The national government has decided against further relaxing COVID-19 restrictions in Metro Manila beyond July 15 due to current data on case doubling time and critical care capacity.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque stated that the available data does not support easing restrictions in the capital region at this time.

Metro Manila mayors and members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) did not recommend transitioning the National Capital Region to the least restrictive modified GCQ (MGCQ).

This decision comes despite the economic managers' push for reopening the economy.

Metro Manila has been under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) classification since June 1.

As of Sunday, the National Capital Region has recorded 25,183 COVID-19 cases, with 921 deaths.

Experts predict that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines could exceed 80,000 by the end of July.
