NBI starts looking into death of accused in murder of Percy Lapid
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has begun investigating the death of former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) deputy security officer Ricardo Zulueta, who was facing murder charges.
Zulueta, along with former BuCor director general Gerald Bantag, are accused of killing broadcaster Percy Lapid in October 2022.
They are also charged with the murder of an inmate, Cristito Villamor Palana, who was allegedly a middleman in Lapid's murder.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla ordered the NBI to investigate Zulueta's death.
The NBI obtained photographs and fingerprints of Zulueta with the consent of his wife.
Arrest warrants have been issued for both Bantag and Zulueta, and they remain at large.
