NBI files charges vs 2 firms for hoarding, overpricing masks

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed charges against two establishments in Manila for hoarding and selling overpriced medical masks and thermal scanners.

The businesses identified as Icon Medics Trading and Jasrich Medical Supplies and Medical Equipment were apprehended following an entrapment operation.

Charges filed against the owners and staff include profiteering and hoarding under the Price Act, and unfair sales practices under the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

During the operation, the NBI seized over 1,300 thermal scanners and 7,600 face masks valued at more than P10 million.

The seized thermal scanners were being sold at P8,000 each, which is eight times their original price of P1,000.
