NAIA, MICP seize P1 billion in shabu from travelers, balikbayan boxes

The Bureau of Customs-NAIA intercepted two Filipino travelers at NAIA Terminal 3 with over P304 million worth of suspected shabu concealed in their luggage.

The first passenger was found with 20.555 kilograms of shabu valued at approximately P139.7 million, while the second had 24.231 kilograms, estimated at P164.77 million.

In a separate incident, the Bureau of Customs at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) seized a shipment valued at P749.63 million, containing 110 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride.

This shipment, declared as household goods originating from the US and concealed in balikbayan boxes, was flagged by the MICP's Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) on June 13, 2025.

Laboratory results and confirmatory testing by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed the substances were indeed shabu.

BOC officials believe syndicates are attempting new methods to smuggle illegal products, with this being the first seizure of shabu in balikbayan boxes from the US.
