MMDA to use CCTV cameras near schools instead of enforcers

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy CCTV cameras instead of traffic enforcers near schools along EDSA and Ortigas to manage traffic and ensure student safety.

MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes announced the shift in strategy to address traffic congestion and unauthorized parking around educational institutions.

This initiative aims to prevent further traffic buildup in school zones, especially in areas with dual shifts where illegally parked vehicles and construction often cause impassable roads.

Schools such as La Salle Greenhills, Poveda, Xavier School, and Ateneo de Manila University are among those being considered for this CCTV monitoring system.

Artes explained that MMDA enforcers have often been redeployed to manage traffic on main roads, leading to less attention on school vicinities.
