MMDA dispatches 50-man team to Bicol Region

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has dispatched a 50-person contingent, comprising a 30-man clearing team and a 20-man search and rescue team, to aid the Bicol Region.

Albay and Camarines Sur are identified as the most severely affected provinces, and the MMDA teams will be deployed there.

The deployed team is equipped with 40 solar-powered water filtration systems, various watercraft including an aluminum boat, two engine-operated rubber boats, and 20 small fiberglass boats, along with 1,000 life vests, chainsaws, evacuation tents, and leptospirosis medicines.

MMDA chair Don Artes clarified that the agency is monitoring the situation in the National Capital Region, and if it is not severely affected, remaining teams will be deployed in Northern Luzon.

The clearing team will focus on removing debris from roads to ensure mobility and accessibility, while the search and rescue team will conduct water search and rescue in inundated areas.

Food packs from institutional donors are also expected to arrive in the Bicol region by Friday morning for distribution to affected individuals.
