MMDA deploys 30-man rescue team to Bicol

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has deployed a 30-man rescue team to the Bicol region to assist local government units in their operations for families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

MMDA chairman Atty. Romando Artes led the send-off ceremony, where he stated that half of the agency's equipment and personnel will remain in Metro Manila as a precautionary measure.

The deployed team is equipped with chainsaws, aluminum and fiberglass boats, bottled water, and water purifiers.

Artes defended the agency against criticisms of late deployment, explaining that preparations were made for potential impacts on Metro Manila.

The MMDA is coordinating with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) for the deployment, with the team expected to arrive in Bicol by Thursday morning.

Severe Tropical Storm Kristine has already affected over 112,000 families across multiple regions in the Philippines.
