Minority Leader backs ECQ extension until April 30

House Minority Leader Benny Abante Jr. supports the extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) over Luzon until April 30, 2020, to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abante stated that keeping everyone home is the safest route due to the lack of mass testing to determine the full extent of infections.

President Duterte was inclined to extend the ECQ from April 13 to April 30, and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases recommended and approved this extension.

He emphasized that the extension makes it imperative for the government to ensure financial assistance is immediately extended to those who need it.

Abante lamented that many residents in Metro Manila have yet to receive their Emergency Subsidy Program (ESP) funds from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
