Metro Manila downgraded to moderate COVID-19 risk

Metro Manila has been downgraded to "moderate risk" for COVID-19, according to Health Undersecretary Maria Vergeire.

This downgrade comes after a significant decrease in infections, with average daily cases in the capital region dropping by 67% compared to the previous week.

The seven-day moving average of daily cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) is 4,398, a substantial decrease from last week's average of 13,298.

The NCR was previously classified as "critical risk" just three weeks prior, on January 4, due to a surge in cases driven by the Omicron variant.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said that the NCR could improve to "low risk" within two weeks if the downtrend in cases continues.

However, David noted that a positivity rate greater than 20 percent is still considered "very high", with the NCR's positivity rate at 20 percent as of January 29.
