MECO clarifies China not involved in OFW hiring in Taiwan

The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) clarified that China has no involvement in the hiring and employment of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Taiwan, as Taiwan operates independently in hiring foreign workers.

MECO chairman Silvestre Bello III stated that Taiwan's Ministry of Labor is actively coordinating with the Philippines' Department of Migrant Workers for the hiring of more Filipino teachers, hospitality workers, fishermen, and farmers.

Bello assured that the nearly 200,000 OFWs in Taiwan are well-protected and their conditions are good, with no cause for alarm.

His remarks came after Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian linked OFW welfare in Taiwan to the Philippines' stance on Taiwan's independence and US military access.
