MCIA opens PH first COVID-19 PCR test lab for airport use

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has inaugurated the Philippines' first COVID-19 PCR test laboratory specifically for airport use.

This 400-square-meter laboratory, operated by Prime Care Medgruppe and certified by the DOH and RITM, can process 1,500 to 3,000 tests daily with results delivered within 24 hours, making it the fastest in the country.

The facility is equipped with advanced technology, including MagNA Pure 96 Systems and LightCycler 480 Instrument II, significantly reducing sample processing and analysis times.

The increased testing capacity and rapid turnaround time are expected to aid the government in facilitating the return of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and seafarers.
