DOH: PH now has 83 labs for COVID-19 testing

The Department of Health (DOH) announced that the Philippines now has 83 licensed laboratories capable of conducting independent COVID-19 testing.

Out of the accredited facilities, 62 are polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratories, and 21 are GeneXpert laboratories.

Recently added laboratories include QualiMed Health Delivery System in San Jose Del Monte, Parkway Diagnostics, and Philippine Airport Diagnostics.

As of July 9, a total of 825,139 individuals have been tested, with 61,964 confirmed positive for COVID-19, resulting in a 7.5 percent positivity rate.

In the past week, from July 1 to 7, an average of 19,459 tests were conducted daily.

On July 7, the highest number of tests in a single day was recorded at 23,104.

Despite increased laboratory capacity, the country has struggled to consistently meet the goal of 30,000 daily tests set for May 30.
